Acupressure

Acupressure massage therapy is used to access and release blocked and congested energy centers in the body. This involves the use of finger pressure on specific pressure points along the body. This ancient Chinese technique is based on the principles of acupuncture, but without the needles.

Acupressure stimulates the body’s own energies and in turn helps fight disease and restore harmony. This type of massage can alleviate symptoms such as stress, arthritis, tension as well as muscular aches and pains. It is used for general preventative health care and well being. An accumulation of toxins can cause stiffness in muscles that, in turn causes abnormal pressure on the nerves, blood and lymph systems. This ultimately affects the skeletal as well as the internal organ functions. This type of therapy helps to diffuse the toxic build up in the muscle tissue.  Acupressure massage therapy, like other massage, has been accepted by the medical field and is now being used on patients suffering from arthritis, spondylitis, frozen shoulders, slipped discs as well as other bone, joint, muscular and tissue disorders and sports related injuries.

In addition this specific massage therapy evokes a positive response in children suffering from congestion, bed wetting, constipation, stress and other related illnesses. Women that suffer from PMT and menopause have positively benefitted as this type of therapy relives cramping, hot flushes and irritability.

This is a unique technique whereby the fingers and thumbs are used in a rapid circular motion on the pressure points using medium pressure and other techniques applied to the body such as kneading, rubbing and vibration are often used by the therapist.  This technique can be performed while lying down, sitting or standing. These massage techniques are employed in conjunction with additional appropriate medical care.

After treatment, stiffness and swelling is reduced and the range of motion, flexibility, coordination and blood circulation is increased.  Acupressure can be used to alleviate migraines, insomnia, headaches, depression, menstrual pain, nausea, motion sickness, digestive disorders, sports related injuries, lethargy and stress as well as constipation and diarrhea.
