Deep tissue massage can help correct and maintain proper structural alignment within the body. It has been proven to help relieve chronic pain caused by bad posture, misalignment, and muscle strain or injury. It has be used successfully to treat:
• Fibromyalgia
• Osteoarthritis
• Neck Pain

Using their knuckles, hands, forearms, and elbows a massage therapist will work to lengthen deep layers of muscle tissue, as well as ligaments, and connective tissue. Deep, slow, flowing massage strokes are used to prevent the muscles from tensing up, and to avoid injury. Deep tissue massage breaks down adhesions in the body to restore movement, and range of motion.
Many of the same strokes that are used in a Swedish massage are duplicated in a deep tissue massage. However, the massage therapist will apply more pressure, and friction. Some mild discomfort is normal as the muscles are worked and lengthened during a deep tissue massage session, but it should not be painful. If you experience pain it is important to let your massage therapist know to use less pressure.

When the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and connective tissue are lengthened with deep tissue massage, the skeletal system can return to its natural position. This allows the body to move and function normally and pain free. If you are experiencing pain in any specific location it is important to discuss it with your massage therapist before the massage begins.
